Hiring foreign interns on D-10 visas
Foreign nationals on a D-10 visa can train as interns with companies or organizations during their job search.
- The wage requirement is that an employment contract must be concluded at a level above the minimum wage.
- You can only intern in an E-1 through E-7 job classification. No simple labor jobs.
- You can intern for 6 months at a time.
Report intern employment
Training commencement and internship employment notification must be reported to the immigration officer of the country of residence within 14 days. Failure to do so will result in illegal employment. Since then, both the company and the individual are subject to fines, fines, and penalties due to violation of the Immigration Control Act, and extension of the period or change of status to another work visa is impossible.

D-10 Visa Extension (Required)
It is important to note that you will be required to submit bank statements when you extend your D-10 visa, and if you have undeclared income, you will not only be denied a visa, but you will also be subject to a judicial review and fines for working illegally, or in severe cases, deportation. In fact, I’ve seen a lot of people get into trouble after unknowingly receiving money in their bank account for undeclared part-time work or tutoring during their job search.
Students who do not secure employment will need to change to a D-10 visa, which is a points-based job search visa.
Depending on your degree, you can stay for up to two years, with an upper limit of six months per stay. International students with a total score of 60 points or more with 20 or more basic items out of a total score of 180 points are eligible.
It is important to note that if you have received fines, citations, or penalties of more than 400,000won for violating immigration control laws related to employment, such as illegal work or part-time work while you were in school, you will not be eligible to apply.
To qualify for a work visa, you must have a basic score of 20 or higher, and a total score of 60 or higher for the optional and value items combined.
