Nationality Application Requirements and Documents for F-6 Marriage Visa Holders
1. Be married to a national spouse
- -Marriage registration must be registered with the national spouse according to the law.
- -In case of common-law marriage, naturalization method: You can apply for naturalization permission even if you are in common-law marriage. However, in this case, it is not simple naturalization, but general naturalization, so you must stay in Korea for more than 5 years to apply.
2. Continue to reside in Korea
- -2 years residence: married and have an address in Korea for at least 2 years
- -3 years after 1 year residence: 3 years after marriage, married, and have an address in Korea for more than 1 year.
- -Exceptions to the residency period requirement: spouse death/disappearance, divorce/separation, and child rearing
3. Width Requirements for row assertion
- -In the event that 10 years have not passed since the execution of the sentence was finished or the date that the sentenced to not be executed has not passed by a person sentenced to a sentence of more than a confinement
- -When a person who has been sentenced to a sentence of more than a confinement and has been suspended from execution of the sentence has not passed 7 years from the end of the probation period.
- -If the person sentenced to a fine has not passed 5 years from the date the fine has been paid
- -In the event that two years have not passed since the date on which a person who has been suspended from sentence or who has been suspended from prosecution has been suspended from sentence or from the date on which he was placed in prosecution.
- -If 10 years have not passed since the date of departure of the person who received the deportation order
- -If 5 years have not passed since the date of departure of the person who was ordered to leave the country
- -In case national duty, customs or local tax has not been paid

Prepare the necessary documents for screening and submit them to the immigration office. Note that there are differences in the application documents depending on whether you are currently married or not.

- Social integration program completion certificate (if any)

3. Examination of application for naturalization permission
-If necessary, a naturalization permit applicant may be asked to appear and state their opinions or to submit related materials.
-You can check whether the naturalization requirements are met by conducting an on-site survey of the residence of the applicant for naturalization permission.
-You can check the background of the applicant for naturalization permit, check the criminal history, and investigate the trend of stay.
4. Naturalization screening
As a result of the naturalization application qualification survey, if it is recognized as meeting the naturalization requirements, a qualification screening is conducted to determine whether the person has the basic knowledge as a citizen of the Republic of Korea, such as well-behaved, Korean language ability and an understanding of Korean customs. To this end, a comprehensive evaluation and interview screening are conducted.
※ Comprehensive evaluation and interview screening are exempted when the marriage relationship is maintained.
- -Written test is exempted.
-If you have completed the social integration program and scored more than 60 points in the comprehensive evaluation, the interview screening is also exempted.

5. Acquisition of nationality according to your permission
- -As a result of the naturalization eligibility screening, a person who is finally determined to be eligible for naturalization shall take a national oath in front of the Minister of Justice and acquire Korean citizenship when the naturalization certificate is awarded.
- -When an applicant for naturalization permit acquires nationality, the Minister of Justice shall notify the head of the family relations registration office at the base of registration without delay and notify it in the official gazette.
