Who should complete the International Marriage Guidance Program
Korean spouse sponsoring a spouse from China, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, or Thailand for a marriage visa
Who is exempt from completion
- A person who has been in a long-term visa relationship in the foreign spouse’s country for more than six months.
- A person who is in a long-term visa stay in a third country for study, secondment, etc.
- A person whose foreign spouse has been lawfully present in the United States for 91 days or more and is in a relationship with the sponsor.
- Spousal pregnancy, childbirth, and other recognized humanitarian considerations
Training content
- Introduction to the local country’s system, culture, and etiquette for international marriages (1 hour)
- Introduction to government policies including marriage license issuance procedures and screening criteria (1 hour)
- Counseling for marriage migrants from civil society organizations, case studies, and experiences of international couples (1 hour)
- Human rights education, including respect for human rights and conflict resolution efforts between couples and prevention of domestic violence (1 hour)
How to apply
Apply online by accessing the Social Integration Information Network at www.socinet.go.kr
Training dates and locations
- When: Wednesday of the first or third week of the month
- Location: Immigration Integration Support Centers at 16 immigration and alien offices nationwide
Issuing and utilizing certificates of completion
- International Marriage Guidance Program completion certificate and completion number text message at the end of the course
- Attach a certificate of completion of the International Marriage Guidance Program to the F6 visa application or include the completion number on the invitation letter.
- The certificate is valid for five years.
