The D3 visa is applied when a Korean headquarters establishes a branch or local subsidiary overseas and invites an employee who has been working at the branch for more than three months as a trainee.

Korean company eligibility

  1. Industrial companies with direct investments in foreign countries under the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act
  2. Industries that export technology to foreign countries
  3. Companies that export industrial equipment to foreign countries

Trainees (foreign nationals)

  1. Production employees of foreign joint ventures or local subsidiaries that have been established and operational for more than three months.
  2. Production employees of a foreign company that has imported technology from a Korean company by signing a technology importation or technology partnership agreement worth $100,000 or more, or imported plant with a FOB value of $500,000 or more.

Trainee eligibility

  1. 18 years old or older 40 years old or younger
  2. At least 3 months of experience with the local entity * Excludes key functional personnel
  3. If you were previously a trainee, more than one year has passed since you left the country
  4. TOPIK level 2 or higher or KLAT level 2 or higher (excluding those who have a bachelor’s degree or higher from a domestic university, or those who have at least one interpreter for every 100 technical trainees and have submitted a “Korean language training agreement” stating that they will provide at least 5 hours of Korean language training per month after the technical trainee arrives in Korea)

Invite to company go-live

When it is recognized that the business will be fully operational within three months and that training staff is necessary to achieve this, training may be allowed even before full operation for staff who meet the following requirements However, no more than 30% of the total number of employees allowed to train

  1. At least 1 year of experience working in a similar role
  2. Technical certification in a relevant field or at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Foreign investment companies under $100,000

To authorize the training of foreign technical trainees for the first time for a technical training company with a direct investment of less than $100,000 in a foreign country, the head of the immigration and alien affairs office must obtain the approval of the Minister of Justice by attaching documents demonstrating the need for the training.

  1. No more than 8% of the total number of domestic permanent workers (excluding temporary workers and technical trainees), but not more than 200, subject to the approval of the Minister of Justice.)
  2. When inviting foreign nationals, additional 50% of compatriot trainees are allowed (total number of trainees cannot exceed 50% of the maximum number)
  3. Invitations from companies with excellent trainee management are allowed to exceed the 30% limit.
